Hands are on display most of the time, so if you want a hand tattoo, give it a lot of thought rather than having an inking you later live to regret. Those 'rock and roll' knuckles from decades ago, are still seen today! Model Cara Delevingne has a bold lion on her knuckle, a red heart outline on her little finger and a snake on the back of her hand.
Of course if you've already got a full sleeve tattoo, incorporating your hand into the design will seem like a natural progression for your inking.
A great way of testing the water is to try a semi-permanent tattoo. These are more limited in design, but are ideal for helping you decide on placement, size and type of tattoo. They last 7 to 18 days, depending on the quality of the kit used. Some look feint straight after application, but then develop into a darker tattoo over 24 hours.
Another option is natural henna tattoos (also known as mehndi), on Meghan Markle's visit to Morocco, she had a floral design on her left hand to celebrate her pregnancy. These go on like a paste, and gradually darken over the following days. They then last for around two weeks, before fading.
Note: Black henna should not be used, in fact it is banned in European countries as it contains high levels of paraphenylenediamine (PPD), which causes allergic reactions.
